What is a Cataract?

Half of all Americans age 80 or older have experienced a cataract or have had surgery to treat a cataract. Although a very common eye diagnosis, it is a tremendously overwhelming experience that can affect your ability to do daily activities. A cataract is a clouding of the natural eye lens that impairs vision.

Common Symptoms

  1. Cloudy or blurry vision

  2. Faded colors

  3. Unable to see at night

  4. Lamp, sunlight, or headlights seem too bright

  5. A halo appears when looking at light

  6. Seeing double images

  7. Changing eye prescription often

Types of Treatment

Home Treatment

  1. Try using brighter lights in your home

  2. Wear anti-glare sunglasses

  3. Get new glasses or contacts

Cataract surgery is one of the most common surgeries conducted in America. This surgery is incredibly safe and effective with 90% of people reporting improved vision after surgery. If your doctor suggests surgery due to cloudy vision getting in the way of everyday activities, cataract surgery might be the most effective solution to removing cataracts. During cataract surgery, the doctor replaces your clouded lens with a new, artificial lens.
